The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers to win their first pennant since 1982

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 on Thursday to win the National League Championship Series, four games to none, and reach the World Series for the first time since 1982. They came back from four runs down. Jackson Chourio caught the final out. The Dodgers, who have won the last two championships, had swept Milwaukee in this same series last year.

The team with the highest payroll in baseball lost four straight to a team with a smaller one, which suggests the invoice and the trophy are processed by different departments.

Maja Chwalinska won the Wuhan Open after beating Iga Swiatek in the semifinal

Maja Chwalinska of Poland won the Wuhan Open in China on Sunday, beating Sonay Kartal of Britain in the final. It was the first final at that level, one of the tour's biggest events, for both players. Chwalinska, seeded 16th, had beaten her fellow Pole Iga Swiatek in the semifinal on Saturday.

Several of the tour's biggest names withdrew from Wuhan with fatigue and injuries, and the trophy went to the colleague who stayed and finished the work.

Ruoning Yin won the Buick LPGA Shanghai in China by one stroke

Ruoning Yin of China won the Buick LPGA Shanghai on Sunday, finishing 11 under par, one stroke ahead of Hye-Jin Choi. She began the final round two strokes behind the leaders, shot a 68, and was the only one of the three overnight leaders to break 70. It was her seventh win on the LPGA Tour, golf's top women's circuit, and her second of 2026.

Golf takes four days and 72 holes to decide a winner by one stroke, an efficiency no project manager would recognize.

Houston beat Jacksonville 34-31 in London on a late field goal

The Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-31 on Sunday morning in London, England, on a late field goal by Ka'imi Fairbairn. Jacksonville's Travis Hunter, who plays both offense and defense, caught eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown and also intercepted a pass. Sunday's later games ended after filing.

One player was asked to catch the ball for his team and also take it away from the other one, and the league treated this as a normal Sunday morning job description.

Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3-2 and has won all seven of its Premier League games

Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday in the Premier League, England's top soccer division, for its seventh win in seven games. Seven wins is 21 points, the maximum available, and City leads the table. Liverpool won 2-1 at Brentford and Chelsea won 2-0 at Everton the same day.

City's perfect start suggests the sport's spending rules were written the way terms and conditions are, to be agreed to rather than read.

The Rugby League World Cup opened with Tonga beating England 30-12

The Rugby League World Cup, a version of rugby with 13 players a side, opened Saturday in Perth, Australia, with Tonga beating England 30-12. The tournament is hosted by Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. Fiji beat the Cook Islands 40-12, and Papua New Guinea beat Lebanon 42-18. In the women's tournament, England beat Wales 70-6.

The tournament needed a full explainer on how to reach the semifinals, a lot of rules for a game whose main rule is to run into the other team.
