Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix for the first time. A 19-year-old became the youngest person to earn a PGA Tour card through its minor league. Cleveland came back from two games down to win a baseball playoff series. Everything below is safe to repeat out loud.

Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix for the first time

Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, his first win on that street circuit, finishing 7.3 seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. Kimi Antonelli was third. It was Verstappen's 73rd career win, in his 250th race. George Russell started 19th because of an engine penalty, a punishment for using too many parts, and finished ninth.

The sport has spent years rewriting its rules to stop one driver from winning everything, and the driver has responded by adding a new city.

A 19-year-old became the youngest player to earn a PGA Tour card from its minor league

Austin Hitt won the Korn Ferry Tour Championship in Glen Allen, Virginia, the last event of golf's minor league, finishing 20 under par and two shots clear. The 20 best players on the season's points list earn a PGA Tour card, the pass to the main tour. Blades Brown, 19, tied for second and became the youngest player ever to earn one this way.

Brown finished second and received the promotion anyway, the one situation in sports where the runner-up gets the corner office.

Cleveland lost the first two games of its playoff series and won the next three

Cleveland beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0 on Saturday in the fifth and deciding game of their best-of-five playoff series, after losing the first two. Jose Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, the only scoring. Cleveland pitchers struck out 21, a record for a nine-inning playoff game, and the team now plays Tampa Bay, Florida.

The only scoring came on a pitch so low that no playoff home run has come from a lower one since records began in 2008, so Ramirez won the series from roughly shin level.

Washington and the New York Giants tied 27-27 after an extra period decided nothing

The Washington Commanders and the New York Giants tied 27-27 on Sunday, which in the NFL happens when a single 10-minute overtime ends with the score level. Washington did not get a final play off before time expired. In London, England, Jacksonville beat Philadelphia 19-17 on a 57-yard field goal with eight seconds left. Sunday's late games ended after filing.

The NFL plays one game a week, charges billions for the television rights, and still occasionally ends one with no winner, like a meeting that could have been an email.

Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 in Liverpool

Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-0 on Sunday at Anfield, Liverpool's stadium in Liverpool, England, in the Premier League's biggest game of the weekend. Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored. Liverpool played the last 30 minutes with ten men after Ryan Gravenberch received a second yellow card, a warning card, which means ejection.

Soccer pays one referee to decide in a second whether a foot touched a leg, then fills a week of television with discussion of the answer, which is much of the sport's business model.

Amos Kipruto won the Chicago Marathon, 34 seconds short of the course record

Amos Kipruto of Kenya won the Chicago Marathon, 26.2 miles through the streets of Chicago, Illinois, in 2 hours, 1 minute, 9 seconds, a personal best by 30 seconds. Hawi Feysa of Ethiopia won the women's race in 2:13:33, repeating her win from last year. Kipruto averaged under 4 minutes 38 seconds per mile.

Kipruto ran 26.2 miles at the pace most people reserve for catching a bus they have already seen leave.

The Golden State Valkyries swept the Las Vegas Aces to reach the WNBA Finals

The Golden State Valkyries swept the Las Vegas Aces 3-0 in the WNBA semifinals, winning Friday's third game 87-77 in overtime, the extra period played after a tie. The Valkyries, who played their first game in May 2025, reach the WNBA Finals in only their second season. The Aces had won the championship in three of the last four years.

Reaching the championship round in year two is the sporting version of being asked to run the department before finding the good coffee machine.
